The Cures of Cold Water Therapy (Germany)
The water treatments known as Kneipp (pronounced ka-NIPE) therapy, popular in spas and homes in Germany, recently got a boost from University of Hanover researchers. A 10-second shower of the face with cold 50 degree water, followed by a cold, wet towel draped around the neck for one minute, stimulated brain activity and alertness in 24 volunteers aged 65 to 80. Benefits lasted for up to 60 minutes after the water treatments were administered. No improvements were noted in those who received warm water washes.
