Pollen, Pollen Everywhere

If you suffer from allergies, it may be wise to keep the car windows rolled up when driving. In a study that appeared in a recent issue of Environmental Science & Technology, researchers discovered that allergens from at least 20 different sources were present in the dust that lay along paved roads and highways.

The stirred-up road dust may be a significant source of airborne allergens, according to study author Dr. Ann Miguel of the California Institute of Technology.

Other preventive measures: Be aware of seasonal pollen reports; limit your outdoor activity in the late morning when pollen counts are highest and don't hang laundry outdoors to dry.
