Pine Bark, Vitamin E for Smokers (Germany, Finland, U.S.)
The antioxidants Pycnogenol (derived from the bark of French maritime pine trees) and vitamin E may be wise choices for smokers. A single 200 mg dose of Pycnogenol reduced the tendency of blood platelets to clump, which could lower smokers' risk for blood clots (Thrombosis Research, 8/99). And in Finnish smokers, high blood levels of vitamin E were linked to a 20% lower risk for lung cancer. (Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Oct. 20, 1999)
