PENS for Back Pain
Doctors at Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas report that a technique called PENS--or percutaneous electrical nerve stimulation--may provide at least short-term relief of chronic back pain. The procedure, which is distinct from the more common TENS, involves the delivery of mild electrical pulses through very thin acupuncture needles in the back, causing a sensation of gentle raindrops or tapping.
