Mind-Body Relief for Tinnitus
A Swedish review of 18 studies of non-drug therapies for tinnitus indicates that mind-body treatments may provide lasting benefits for those with the disorder. Cognitive-behavioral psychotherapy, relaxation techniques, hypnosis, biofeedback, and patient education sessions were most effective in reducing how annoyed patients felt by the ringing. To a lesser extent, these treatments helped allay depression and anxiety and improve sleep. (British Journal of Audiology, Aug. 1999)
