Hypertension and Memory Loss (France)
High blood pressure, a known risk factor for heart attack and stroke may also be linked to memory loss, a new study suggests. Among those with the highest blood pressure (160/95 or higher) who went untreated, 21% experienced signs of mental decline over four years of follow-up. In comparison only about 7% of those who maintained normal blood pressures (either with or without medications) had signs of memory loss. (Neurology, Dec. 1999)
