Heart-Healthy Walnuts (France)
Walnuts and walnut oil appear to benefit blood lipid levels, and could help protect you against heart disease. Scientists who studied 793 people between ages 18 and 65 found that those who frequently consumed walnut oil or walnuts had higher levels of HDL cholesterol and apo A1 than those who never ate them. HDL is the "good" cholesterol, and apo A1 is a lipid with cardioprotective effects when present in high levels. (Preventive Medicine, Apr. 1999)
