Heart-Healthy Tea (Netherlands)
Tea drinking may thwart fatty plaque buildup in the arteries, say investigators at Erasmus University Medical School in Rotterdam. The scientists followed about 3,500 healthy people for two or three years. Those who drank one or two cups of tea daily lowered their risk of severe coronary artery disease by 46% while those consuming four or more cups daily dropped their risk by 69%. Women seemed to benefit more than men. (Archives of Internal Medicine, Oct. 11, 1999)
