Surgical Workout
Exercise may hasten recovery after an operation, Korean doctors report. In a small study, patients began with light, three-day-a-week exercise in their bed, beginning two days after surgery for stomach cancer. They progressed to a five-day-a-week stationary bicycle workout. Those who exercised had higher levels of natural killer cells, immune cells that attack cancer cells and fight infection than their sedentary counterparts.
