A Drink to Prevent Ulcers (Germany)
A group of researchers at the University of Ulm have pinpointed another possible benefit of moderate alcohol consumption, (one or two drinks a day). Alcoholic beverages, which have strong antibacterial activity, apparently can destroy Helicobacter pylori, the pesky bacteria responsible for most stomach ulcers. Wine seems to be more effective than beer at reducing the odds of active H. pylori infection: The risk was cut by 42% for wine drinkers and by 25% for beer drinkers.
