Cigarettes: A Heavy Toll (U.K.)
The warning label on a pack of cigarettes should make you think twice before lighting up. But a group of researchers in the U.K. translated the warning into minutes of life lost, making the implications even clearer. Each cigarette smoked could cost 11 minutes of life. That's a day and a half for a carton of cigarettes and an average of six and a half years for a lifetime smoker. (British Medical Journal, Jan. 2000)
